CURRICULUM

DNU S.M.B.M National Public School is a co-education school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education from KG to GRADE XII. The school follows English as the medium of instruction. Tamil and Hindi are taught as II and III languages respectively. Physical Education, Art Education, Information Technology and Work Experience are an integral part of the curriculum.

The prime emphasis of our curriculum is on empowering the students’ communication skills—Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The efforts are intended to empower students to make decisions, find creative solutions and plan effective action strategies.

The curriculum is structured in a manner that keeps your child in touch with the ever-changing world trends, right from the junior level to the senior level.

We constantly revamp, reinvent and evaluate the classroom and teaching strategy to create the most appropriate education that your child deserves. The study programme for all learning levels is unique because it is a blend of the finest hands-on teaching methodologies.

PRE PRIMARY (Pre. KG – Sr. KG)

The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the Child’s natural desire to learn.

~ Maria Montessori

Our curriculum is planned to promote positive growth in the lives of all children. We will adopt a holistic approach that enables each child to develop their social, physical, emotional and intellectual abilities.

The preschool works with the ethos of expounding an enchanting world of fun and frolic for the students and lays the unfathomable base for an eternal learning process of life skills and learning.

A kaleidoscopic range of activities like drawing, colouring, cutting, tearing, pasting, clay work, music, singing, dance, story-telling, dramatics and puppetry are introduced to hone the hidden talents of the students through the play-way method.

It strives to:

  • Make learning interesting, joyful and hands-on activity oriented
  • Provide opportunities for children to develop their observation, skills, and handle a variety of natural and man-made materials to improve their gross and fine motor skills.
  • Encourage them to participate in class activities, and hone their inherent virtue of questioning and sharing.
  • Dramatize poems and stories using expressive actions for the students.
  • Lay the foundation for literacy, numeracy & comprehension skills and on reinforcing an innate sense of discovery in everything that is taught.
  • Nature walks and visits to Museums and Parks develop a sense of openness towards the world.

PRIMARY (GRADE I – V)

Creativity is the key to success in the future, and primary education is where teachers can bring creativity to children at that level.

~ Abdul Kalam

A creative and innovative approach is the basis of teaching in the primary classes where learning is catered through the hands-on experiences imparted through exposure to myriad activities in both the scholastic as well as co-scholastic areas. Relentless dedication is involved to explicate the child’s scientific temper, develop an inquisitive mind and master communication skills with confidence. Apart from English and Tamil, Hindi is introduced to the students as a third language.

The effort is to shift their focus from achieving academic excellence to awakening Human Potential in every child. The child flourishes in an environment that provides freedom of learning life skills that go beyond the classrooms which enables the enhancement of cognitive and meta-cognitive skills.

MIDDLE (GRADE VI - VIII)

The more that you read,

the more things you will know,

the more that you learn,

the more places you’ll go.

~ Dr Seuss

The important transition takes place during these impressionistic years where the methodology followed is the extension of the momentum gained in the primary classes. Again the erudition is maximized through questioning, dialogue, experimentation and exposure to various media. Students learn best when they actively participate in class and they feel valued when teachers encourage them to share their knowledge with their peers. Hence ample opportunities are given to the children to interact with one another through encouraged participation in various intra and inter-school activities.

Academic teaching incorporates activities and experimental-based learning programmes. A detailed and more comprehensive evaluation based on a grading system is done to display the students’ achievements of the learning objective.

SECONDARY (GRADE IX – X)

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

~ Benjamin Franklin

The secondary classes follow the CBSE-prescribed curriculum for their external examination, following the broad guidelines set by the NCERT. Weightage for internal assessment has been welcomed in all subjects thus substantiating our agenda of sustained evaluation. Career counselling is also given to the students to help them recognize their aptitude. Along with the scholastic programmes, students are ignited to live with an attitude of gratitude by exposing them to extensive activities where individual qualities and aspirations surface to make them more responsible human beings.

A foundation for an inquisitive and analytical thinking process is laid, which helps the students to know their skills to reach greater heights in life. The string of co-curricular activities continues to be of importance at the secondary level. Career Guidance programmes are conducted often to help them reach their dreams by choosing the right stream at the Senior Secondary level.

SENIOR SECONDARY (GRADE XI & XII)

The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.

~ Aristotle
