A Brief History of the School

The Schools under the Dindigul Nadar Uravinmurai were conceived as a gift for the future generations of Tamil Nadu in 1966. Under the visionary leadership of Sri Manikkam Nadar who proffered to serve as the Secretary and Sri Rathna Pandian the winner of the National Best Teacher’s Award who assumed the responsibilities as the founding Principal laid the foundation for the education system, built on the concept of Thiruvalluvar, the wealth which never declines, is not riches but learning!”

Inspired by the ideals, the Dindigul Nadar Uravinmurai, began the school to meet the diverse educational needs of the district of independent India. The School which began in a small rented space with two classrooms and 55 students, soon expanded to grow by leaps and bounds. Within the first four years of establishment, the School students started earning the laurels, and the M.S.P. SOLAI NADAR MEMORIAL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL stood tall to be recognized as a Top School in the District.

Later, the SMBM Matriculation HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL was formed in 1980. This led to the establishment of DNUs K.K.A.G. MATRICULATION SCHOOL in 2001 and subsequently to reach global standards our School DNU SMBM NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL (CBSE) was established in 2017 and upgraded to Senior Secondary in the year 2020. Today the schools are looked upon as landmark educational institutions by one and all.

The Dindigul Nadar Uravinmurai manages the School through elected representatives in the Governing Body. The Governing Body lays down the direction, the policies and the guidelines for the School and monitors its performance on an ongoing basis.

The President and the Hon. Secretary of the Society, as the Executive arms of the Society, are responsible for the overall control of the management of the School. The day-to-day academic and administrative management of the School is the responsibility of the Correspondent and the Principal.

Set up during a time when India, as a country was taking shape after its independence, as the countrymen were taking their first breaths of freedom… The DNU Schools today are a living testimony of the fulfilment of the dreams of some of Dindigul’s greatest visionary leaders. Leaders, who believed that the new generation of Indians must grow up emotionally strong, with the belief in togetherness and living in harmony…

The School is named in honour of the Founder Chairman, Shriman SMB Manickam Nadar’s Family DNU SMBM School is truly a school with a difference. The Symbol of the School is representing various aspects of learning.

  • An open book indicates that knowledge is freely shared
  • An open laptop represents that the latest educational tools are in use to provide the best learning experiences
  • While the Globe represents globalism and connectivity
  • Microscope representing research and discovery.
  • Dalton’s atomic structure above all these symbolises that everything bonds together to ultimately create all that matters in our universe!

DNU Strongly believes that these five pieces—the book, the computer, the globe, the microscope and the atomic energy—represent the five dimensions. To symbolise a secret message that learning is a lifelong process, and all of us are a work in progress, each of these elements is presented as interlocking pieces of a mosaic jig-saw.

The school Motto, “We Can & We Will” reinstates the ideals cherished by the founding fathers and is imparted even today.

Overall Integrity, Genuineness, Courage, Leadership, Non-discrimination, Nonviolence, Aspiration, and Self-esteem forms part of the School’s commitment to building National Pride, a tradition that continues till today.
